University tech transfer offices play a variety of roles in the IP world.  The panel addressed unique considerations for outside counsel in representing universities and how to bridge points of contention between industry and universities in licensing transactions.  Speakers provided outsiders a look inside the tech transfer office (TTO), sharing how TTOs determine which invention disclosures to pursue, and whether rights to the invention should be released back to the inventors.  The program concluded with a discussion of recent case law that has (or has not) affected TTO practices.

Presented by:
  • Ami Gadhia - Portfolio Director, Johns Hopkins University
  • Robert MacWright - Director, Office of Commercial Ventures & IP, University of Massachusetts Amherst
  • Paul Savereide - Sr. Associate General Counsel, Sr. IP Counsel-Patents, University of Minnesota
